FF Builder Tent is no more

Brian Cowen has announced that the infamous Fianna Fail tent at the Galway Races is no more.

Some of the posters over at The Property Pin had some amusing comments to make on it:

Brian’s no fool.

Scraps the tent.
Avoids having to face the builders.
And comes accross as cleaner than Bertie, clean slate, no more FF tied to the builders.

Nice one BC.

They’re downsizing to a telephone box - they are not expecting many solvent builders at Galway this year.

He knows that being seen to be cosy with builders when the full scale of the mugging of young Irish people becomes apparent over the next couple of years won’t be a wise move.

I disagree, in the 70’s they were probably the farmers party with the IFA pulling the strings. In the 80’s, it was the industrialists like Goodman, Smurfit and co.

They’ll move on to the next profitable donor-industry now - this is as sure a sign as you’ll get that property has had it day. BC is cutting the apron-strings, the CIF are on their own now.

I have to say I agree with most of them. As anyone who knows me already knows, I’m no fan of Fianna Fail but its refreshing to see the new Taoiseach making some changes that appear to be for the greater good, even if there are possible ulterior motives that can explain them.

Bell-end of the week: George Bush

George Bush sure has a great talent for saying stupid things. From today’s BBC News:

Mr Bush said he told Gen Musharraf it was not right to continue as both president and head of the military.

“My message was that we believe strongly in elections and that you ought to have elections soon and you need to take off your uniform,” Mr Bush told reporters.

“You can’t be the president and the head of the military at the same time, so I had a very frank discussion with him.”

Guess who the commander-in-chief of the US military is?

Epic.

Bertie’s back

Bertie Ahern and his new-found green buddies are back in Leinster House today, and according to RTE News Dick Roche is gone from the cabinet. I’m sure the people of Galway are delighted at that, given that they STILL don’t have a clean water supply!

Every cloud has a silver lining I guess

Much to my dismay, Fianna Fáil appear to be romping home to a possible overall majority this evening, but on the up side the PD’s have been all but destroyed. Michael McDowell lost his seat a few minutes ago, and the only one currently elected is Mary Harney, and from what I can tell from RTE’s coverage, there only exists the possibility of them winning one more seat, in Galway.

The shit finally starts to stick to Bertie

AT LAST. Watching the media coverage this morning is delightful - maybe there’s some hope left for this country after all. McDowell has demanded a statement from Bertie Ahern about his hilarious financial affairs (Minister for Finance with no bank account? Only in Ireland!). Bertie is due to have a press conference at 15.00 today. The talking heads on TV and radio are really lapping it up.
Tom Parlon (PD) was on RTE news a few minutes ago and really made himself look like a gobshite.

Extensive discussion on boards.ie (one two) and politics.ie.

Irish Examiner
Irish Times
Plenty more.

Politicians are like nappies…

I saw this in someone’s signature on boards.ie today, and felt it to be a very accurate description:

“Politicians are like nappies - They need changing often and largely for the same reason.”
