Today is the 21st anniversary of Phil Lynott’s death from heart failure following a heroin overdose. He was 36 when he died. As usual every January 4th since his death, the Vibe for Philo is on tonight.

James Brown died in hospital in Atlanta, Georgia in the early hours of this morning, following his admission for a severe case of pneumonia.

I came across this cool plugin/helper app for Winamp, Windows Media Player, iTunes and a bunch of other popular players this evening: MiniLyrics. Its buy-it-if-you-like-it-ware - i.e. the “trial” doesn’t expire. It works quite well indeed. When you play a track it reads the ID3 tags, goes off and searches for appropriate lyrics, and lets you pick which ones to download. It’ll scroll the lyrics on screen in time with the song being played. Cheap karaoke for all!

That’s a question you’ve got to ask after reading that he was recently arrested at Bob Hope Airport (formerly Burbank) in California with a gun and marijuana in his possession. Seriously, in today’s security climate at airports, particularly American ones, what kind of a fucking moron do you need to be to bring drugs and a gun to one?
