The Ecstasy of Gold

The latest version of Fortress Forever comes with a great piece of startup music that many will recognise as a cover of Ennio Morricone’s famous “The Ecstasy of Gold”, from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Its also well known amongst Metallica fans, as they use it to open their live shows.

This particular version is an acoustic guitar rendition of the song, and you can listen to it here.

All the rage

This song seems to be all the rage here in Idaho at the moment, with widespread play in bars and on the radio (albeit in a more cleaned up form):

Jonathan Coulton

My first exposure to Jonathan Coulton was the brilliant song “Still Alive” that you get rewarded with when you complete the (fantastic) game, Portal. If you go and visit his site you can buy his music, download some of it for free (and DRM-free too), and sample pretty much all of it. Quality stuff!
He was on TWiT about a week ago, worth a listen if you enjoy his music.

Bell-end of the week: Elton John

Haven’t had one of these for a while, but Elton John really pulled out all the stops this week and made it.

Elton John is convinced the only way to save music is to shut the internet down.

The British pop superstar fears there’s “too much technology available” and claims that it is starving musical creativity.

I think boards.ie poster Hagar summed it up best in this thread :)

Haven’t you got enough money to keep you in stupid glasses and lube for the rest of your life? Greedy fat bastard.

I’m convinced the only way to save music is to shut Elton John down.

Tenacious D - Kickapoo

This is fucking brilliant. Its the opening scene from their film, “The Pick of Destiny”.
Notice Meatloaf and Dio!

“Dio can you hear me?
I am lost and so alone
I’m asking for your guidance
Would you come down from your throne?
I need the tight compadre that will teach me how to rock
My father thinks you’re evil but man, he can suck a cock”

Brilliant.

Kevin Bloody Wilson - The Local

This is pure quality. Australia’s one and only Kevin Bloody Wilson!

Sing with me now:

“The local chef’s a puffta
The local doc’s a drunk
The local priest likes little boys’ bums,
and the local cop’s a cunt!”
