Bell-end of the week: Michael Stone

I’m a few days late with this but he really is a bell-end. For those who don’t know, Michael Stone is the loyalist nutter that attacked and killed three mourners (only one of which was an IRA member) and injured 60 at a PIRA funeral in 1988 with grenades and a handgun.
He attempted an attack at Stormont a few days ago with several explosive devices and… a fake handgun. Now this shithead gets his early release under the Good Friday agreement revoked, plus whatever extra years he gets added on to his sentence for this latest stunt.
Hopefully the bastard spends the rest of his life in prison.

MiniLyrics

I came across this cool plugin/helper app for Winamp, Windows Media Player, iTunes and a bunch of other popular players this evening: MiniLyrics. Its buy-it-if-you-like-it-ware - i.e. the “trial” doesn’t expire. It works quite well indeed. When you play a track it reads the ID3 tags, goes off and searches for appropriate lyrics, and lets you pick which ones to download. It’ll scroll the lyrics on screen in time with the song being played. Cheap karaoke for all!

Here’s a screenshot of it in action, showing lyrics from The Cranberries’ “Linger”:

Surprisingly, lyrics for Kompressor Does Not Dance were unavailable - fancy that!

Its kind of amusing to play death metal tracks and see what those crazy roaring bastards are actually saying.

Kompressor break your glowstick. Kompressor eat your candy!

I hate to use this, but… LoL

Another classic that came my way via email. I’m in stitches!

Facelift

You may have noticed that I’ve changed the theme here again. I wasn’t entirely happy with the old one. I’ve probably broken some of the hacks I was using before. If I notice anything I’ll try to fix it tomorrow.

Nutter interrupts Late Late Show

I posted this over at TCAL too, before anyone accuses me of ripping them off!
This drunk guy somehow got onto the stage right at the start of tonight’s Late Late Show on RTE1, and told Pat Kenny exactly what he thinks of him and Gay Byrne. It was on the intertubes in minutes :) Live TV folks!
Thanks to boards.ie poster Parasite for the clip. I stuck it onto YouTube:

Blond Bond

I went to see the new 007 film, “Casino Royale” tonight in the local Cineplex. It didn’t quite live up to all the hype I’ve been hearing about it recently, but its not a bad film. I wasn’t expecting Daniel Craig to make such a good James Bond, but he does. He’s a much darker, more ruthless bond, and I think the franchise is better off for it.
There’s a great scene during the first 10 minutes or so which consists mostly of Craig trying to keep up with a terrorist-cum-parkour expert in Uganda. Very amusing to watch.
He’s got a very sexy new Aston Martin DBS to play with too, along with the new Ford Mondeo (???) for a while.
Speaking of sexy, the bond girls are, as usual, very hot and enjoyable to watch. See for yourself:

A word of warning: Product placement is rife in this film. You’d swear Sony manufactured all of the electronics in the world judging by this.

Casino Royale also gets very slow and boring for a while towards the end, and it left me feeling like they were just making it longer for the sake of it. Despite the above, its still an amusing film, and a must-see for anyone like me who grew up watching Bond films.

6.5/10 - Not quite a royale with cheese then.

WTF?

Flashed the BIOS to the latest version and now the RAM is working OK when set to SPD settings in the BIOS. Still goes mental when I install it in a dual channel configuration though. Besides that everything appears to be working fine. I’ve installed Windows XP pro SP2 and all the drivers and stuff, and am enjoying the silky smooth dual core fun.

IT LIVES!

Well, maybe the RAM wasn’t faulty after all. I’m not sure, but something’s a bit screwy. I changed the RAM timings in my BIOS to match the manufacturer’s specifications (which it should have been doing automatically by SPD anyway), and installed it in a single channel configuration.
It passed memtest and I successfully installed Windows. Setting it up in dual channel results in it failing memtest right away. WTF?

I have now noticed that Abit have a BIOS update available promising “increased RAM compatibilty”.

Abit, you fuckers, I’m watching you.

Bollocks.

The RAM I got from Komplett is faulty. Both modules fail Memtest86+ with several hundred errors each :(
Have to RMA them. The new machine is going to have to wait a while.
