I’m back, several hours later.
I’m back. Finally.
I left Zurich this morning at 11.00 CET (Lovely airport by the way, this is what Dublin Airport should aspire to be like) and had a pleasant enough flight to Heathrow. Heathrow was crap as usual. I checked my single piece of hold baggage in all the way through at Zurich, to avoid having to fight my way through checkin at Heathrow.
Upon arriving at Heathrow terminal 4 I spent about an hour getting to terminal 1 (most of which was spent waiting for the bus and queueing for security checks). Once I finally arrived at the cattle shed-like dump that BAA uses for all Irish flights in/out of Heathrow, I finally saw a nice message on the departures screens: Flight EI165 to Dublin: Cancelled.
Apparently something fucked up bad (technical term) in Dublin Airport today. Aer Lingus moved me to an earlier flight, which funnily enough eventually left Heathrow later than the cancelled flight would have left. This of course resulted in my bag going to airline limbo.
Like a muppet, I left my car keys in said bag. I spent about 5 hours waiting around Dublin Airport, during which three more Aer Lingus flights from Heathrow arrived, but still no sign of my bag. Eventually I got my ould fella on the phone and he agreed to drive up with my spare keys for the car. Shortly after leaving the airport after getting the keys, I get a message from Aer Lingus - they’ve “located” my “delayed” bag and will deliver it to me tomorrow. Gaaah.
end rant.
Oh yeah, by the way: Zurich is nice but expensive. Full of banks, jewellers, department stores, trams and… sex shops. Indeed.

You should have given me a bell I’m only 10 mins from the airport. I do agree with you on that shithole of a terminal in Heathrow, It’s possibly the most expensive kip of an airport in Europe. Although I can’t say much for Dublin Airport.

Gah! Wish I’d thought of that yesterday!
Aer Lingus said my bag would be delivered to me this morning. Its now 18.41 and no sign of it
I rang them a few times during the day and was told it’d be here in about 45 minutes etc. Apparently not.

On my last 2 work trips they lost my bag. The first was the day of the strike and it was delivered a day and a half later. The second was last Saturday, they said it would be delivered in two hours, they delivered it the following night at 12 o’clock at night!! The taxi men at the airport normally get the runs so they make a fortune off delivering them out.

A guy in a “Sky Couriers” van showed up at my house at 8 last night with the bag. They had promised it would be there yesterday MORNING!
I’m just wondering wtf happened at the airport to cause my flight to be cancelled in the first place.
