I think it was a 737 he was flying and that runway was probably designed for training/light attack aircraft. Plus, he was talking to Derry Tower the whole way in. I can only imagine what that conversation sounded like: "Derry, on approach for landing on runway 27" "Ermm... No you're not" He’s just lucky the runway was long enough.
