The FÁS Girl

Apparently this girl is plastered all over billboards and bus shelters around Dublin. Very nice. Have a look for yourself on Ray Foley’s blog.

Update: Here’s a higher quality picture… nice.

National Anthems

Ever wanted to know what a particular country’s national anthem sounds like? Wonder no more, thanks to the US Navy! Can’t say I love their performance of Amhrán na bhFiann too much though.

Scrubs air band

Anyone who has seen the latest episodes of Scrubs screening in the US at the moment will have seen this already, but its bloody entertaining and free to see on the NBC site - the hospital’s air band plays Boston’s “More Than A Feeling”. The website seems a bit dodgy in Firefox, so you may need to resort to Internet Explorer for it.

Disgusting.

According to this news article, the US Army charged a soldier that received a medical discharge after being injured in the war in Iraq $700 for the body armour that he wore as he bled. What a shower of bastards.

Freedom of Speech

Unless you’ve been living in a cave for the last few weeks, you will have heard about the uproar and violence from the muslim world about a certain few cartoons first published in a Danish newspaper, and then later republished across europe in a show of solidarity by the press. Danish businesses and nationals have experienced violence, death threats and other forms of persecution over the last few weeks, along with other europeans living in the middle east.
The religious and political correctness brigades and other, more sinister groups are now trying to restrict your freedom of speech, using these cartoons and the subsequent events, ridiculously blown out of all proportion to do so.

Fuck those guys.

Memory Stick users beware!

If you plan to get yourself - or already have - a cheap Sony memory stuck pro duo from eBay for your PSP, phone, camera or whatever, beware. Unscrupulous bastards are flooding eBay with poor quality fakes that appear to be packing it in after a couple of months use.

Most of the fakes are 1 and 2GB models.
This handy link shows you how to determine whether or not your memory stick is a fake.

The Shield

The ShieldJust watched episodes 3 and 4 of season 5 of The Shield last night. It is as intense as ever, excellent TV. The last scene of episode 4 had me grinning ear to ear. I won’t say why here as it’d be a spoiler but you’ll see why if you watch it.

Trackmania Nations ESWC

French software devs Nadeo have released the latest in their series of Trackmania games - Trackmania Nations ESWC - a free version of Trackmania designed for competitive play in the e-Sports World Cup. I couldn’t give a flying fuck about the ESWC, but this game is fun. Existing Trackmania players should enjoy it, and its free nature is attracting a lot of new blood to the game.

For those who don’t know, Trackmania is an arcadey racing game, involving puzzles, ridiculous stunts and insane speed. The ESWC version doesn’t have the puzzle mode - just racing/time trials, but it does include the full track editor, and there’s already loads of custom tracks out in the wild. File sizes of the custom tracks are tiny, so they are usually downloaded on the fly in seconds when you join a server.
You can download the full installer at high speeds from nVidia’s servers here. It is well worth the 265MB.

The IT Crowd

Fans of Father Ted, Black Books and plenty of other quality television programmes, c’mere. Graham Linehan (co-writer of both of the aforementioned shows) has a new show on Channel 4, called The IT Crowd. Best of all, the first two episodes are now available to download from the official site. They are Windows Media format, and use the MMS streaming protocol, but you can easily download them to your desktop if you replace mms:// in the URL with http:// :)

Each episode weighs in at around 65MB. Free stuff fucking rocks.
