I went to see Boy Eats Girl in the cinema tonight. I was fully expecting it to be crap, but it turned out to be very amusing indeed. Sara James (you know, yer wan from the ill-fated RTE series ‘The Big Bow-Wow’) was particularly hot looking in it.

This is hilarious. Its a psychological analysis of why people smoke, from 1947, listed on smokingsides.com as a pro-smoking argument. Here’s an example of how completely stupid it is:

“No, Thanks, I’ll Smoke My Own”

This is the reply of most smokers when they are offered a brand different from their own. Brand loyalty among smokers is strong and persistent. Individuals smoke one brand consistently, so that they become identified with it. A guest who discovers that his host smokes the same brand considers this a personal flattery. If a young lady changes to the brand of an admirer, he understands that he has surely made an impression. Here is the experience of one young man, and his interpretation of it: “I was very fond of a girl. She was giving a farewell party before leaving the country. I didn’t have any idea how I stood in her affection. The only clue was that at her party she had my brand of cigarettes. I always felt that that was in deference to me.” “My brand” has a special significance, as if it were a part of the smoker’s credo and personality.

Dublin Airport Authority finally announced the plans for construction of terminal 2 at Dublin airport, along with another new building, called Pier D. The new terminal is expected to be operational in 2009 (I’ll believe that when I see it, given that they haven’t even started the tender process yet) and Pier D is expected to be operational in 2007.

Given the mental state of the crowds at the checkin area last time I was in Dublin airport, it really could do with this sooner rather than later. That said, I was flying with no hold baggage and was able to check in in only a couple of minutes using automatic check in machines, which was brilliant. Quite amusing doing that and strolling past the hordes queueing at the check in desks, giving you filthy looks :).

Rescue Me season 2 just came to an end in the states this week, and it was pretty good too. First few episodes weren’t great but things really picked up then.
Also, the second half of season 9 of South Park begins in just over a month \o/

On the 4th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, Michael Moore has written an open letter for his “fellow Americans” that voted for George W. Bush a second time.

Here’s a small excerpt:

Don’t start ranting on about how this disaster in New Orleans was the fault of one of the poorest cities in America. Put aside your hatred of Democrats and liberals and anyone with the last name of Clinton. Just look me in the eye and tell me our President did the right thing after 9/11 by naming a horse show runner as the top man to protect us in case of an emergency or catastrophe.

I want you to put aside your self-affixed label of Republican/conservative/born-again/capitalist/ditto-head/right-winger and just talk to me as an American, on the common ground we both call America.

Some little 17 year old scumbag killed himself and hospitalised his 20 year old partner in crime in a stolen Opel Corsa in Cork last night. The shithead crashed it into a stone pillar at the entrance to somebody’s house. WHAT A TRAGEDY.
The gene pool is better off without him polluting it, its just a pity that someone’s car had to be destroyed to achieve this.

Fruit fucker is the funniest thing about this strip. Haven’t seen him in a while
